about this home's

219 Beach Road is a gorgeous estate on the eastern slope of Belvedere Island, overlooking the sailboats and sparkling waters of Belvedere Cove. The expansive property offers the ultimate Marin lifestyle, minutes from San Francisco by ferry or the Golden Gate Bridge, but worlds away from the city’s hustle and bustle.
The sheltered eastern side of Belvedere Island was settled around the turn of the last century by the wealthy of San Francisco looking to escape the fog and chill of the city. The exquisite house at 219 Beach is one of the early grande dames of the island, dating back to 1900. The main house and the separate guest house have been extensively remodeled in recent years, but the home’s distinctive Mediterranean architecture, verdant environs, and sweeping views continue to exude character and a sense of place.
The sun-drenched estate features a gracious three-plus bedroom main house, a separate one bedroom guesthouse, a two car garage, a huge limestone patio with built-in Wolf grill, several more intimate patios and seating areas, lush gardens, two level grassy lawns, and meandering flagstone paths criss-crossing the sprawling property.
Elegant wrought iron gates mark the entrances at either end of the street-to-street lot. Graceful stone stairways wind through the property past colorful gardens, lawns, and peaceful perches. Center stage are the main house and adjacent huge patio, perfect for indoor/outdoor entertaining, with a built-in grill, bistro lights overhead, and a gas line ready for a fire pit.
An arched colonnade, leaded glass windows, and exposed beam ceilings imbue the house with grace and charm, and water views illuminate virtually every room. Grand doorways lead to the living room, formal dining room, kitchen, and family room. French doors opening onto Juliet balconies line two walls of the oversized living room, abutting an elegant fireplace flanked by built-in bookshelves. The large marble-clad gourmet kitchen features a generous center island, high-end Wolf, Thermador, and Miele appliances, two sinks, a light-filled breakfast nook, and a pair of pantries. A cozy office/family room completes the main level.
A flight of stairs leads up to the luxurious premier bedroom suite, with a bright and airy bedroom, sitting room, a huge premier bath, and a walk-in closet. French doors open onto a large deck overlooking the Bay — the perfect venue to watch the sailboat races and the ever-present tableaux of sea and birdlife.
Down a flight of stairs from the main level are two additional bedrooms, a powder room, and a full bath. Both bedrooms feature beautiful water views, and one includes a fireplace. Another level down is the laundry room, a wine/storage room, and a generous family/entertainment room with a built-in banquette which could easily be an additional bedroom or converted to an in-law unit with a separate entrance.
Flagstone stairs lead up the hill, past a spacious storage room at the back of the main house, to the lovely guest suite with dramatic Bay views tucked under the two car garage.
Families will appreciate the warm and welcoming house and grounds, as well as the highly desirable community and award-winning school district. Busy executives will savor the estate’s peace and privacy so close to San Francisco, the Bay Area, and beyond. All will welcome Belvedere’s bucolic lifestyle, with its secluded winding roads, hidden stairways lacing the island, and walkability to downtown Tiburon’s village shops, restaurants, parks, and frequent ferries to San Francisco, Sausalito, and Angel Island.

219 Beach Road, Belvedere, CA

With waterfront vistas that rival the Côte d'Azur, Belvedere is one of Marin's most exclusive enclaves. Large, historic homes perched on hillsides with commanding views of San Francisco Bay define Belvedere, one of Marin County and the Bay Area’s most desirable communities.

This tiny city of 2,200 residents is located on two former islands and the land in between surrounding a private lagoon, within walking distance of downtown Tiburon’s shops, restaurants, waterfront parks, and ferries to San Francisco, Sausalito, and Angel Island.

The world-famous San Francisco Yacht Club calls Belvedere home, while the Corinthian Yacht Club, which straddles the border between Belvedere and Tiburon, is accessed from Tiburon. The Belvedere Sailing Society promotes social and water activities on the Belvedere Lagoon. Outdoor concerts are held in Belvedere Park throughout the summer, and Belvedere Playground is a popular spot for the young.

Belvedere shares tony shops, restaurants, and municipal resources with neighboring Tiburon. Residents enjoy shopping in the boutiques on Main Street and along Ark Row, a leafy block of tiny shops that were once floating arks. The Belvedere Tiburon Library hosts over 1,000 programs a year for all ages, and the annual Tiburon International Film Festival brings films from around the world.

Belvedere students attend the outstanding public schools in neighboring Tiburon, rated among the best in the state. The Reed Union School District covers grades Kindergarten through 8th. High schoolers primarily attend Redwood High School in the Tamalpais Union High School District.
